Lifelong Connection to Oklahoma
Despite living in many different states and different countries, Perle Mesta never forgot her Oklahoma roots. Though she would amass a monumental estate, reside in lavish mansions, and entertain everyone from world leaders to Hollywood stars, she remained humble and unpretentious her entire life. In her later years, when her health began to deteriorate, she returned home to Oklahoma City. On March 16th, 1975, Perle passed away at age 85.
"In my heart, Oklahoma is my home."

There are nods to Perle's legacy in Oklahoma City. Perle Mesta Park, located at Shartel Avenue and N.W. 18th Street, was established by her brother O.W. Skirvin upon Perle's death. Surrounding the park where families gather to play, is the historic preservation district named the Mesta Park Neighborhood and the location of her childhood home. Each fall the neighborhood association hosts Mesta Festa, a lively community event that would surely receive Perle's stamp of approval.
