Society Life

Known for her lively social gatherings, Perle was an expert at hosting a relaxed, fun-loving atmosphere where guests could fully be themselves. Leveraging her social and political connections, she hosted diplomats, presidents, royals, industry leaders, and stars of the stage and screen. Some of her more famous guests included Calvin Coolidge, Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Judy Garland, and Maria Tallchief. It was not uncommon for President Truman to play the piano at parties, and President Eisenhower could often be persuaded to sing for those gathered.

Perle was keenly aware of the political impact her parties could have when she forged connections of important policymakers. Her guest lists were often strategically made to accommodate discussion of pressing issues in a more casual setting. Due to the substantial inheritances she received from both her late husband and father, along with her talent for managing finances, Perle spared no expense when it came to her guests. Despite this, her parties were never known to be particularly glamorous, pretentious, or exclusive; instead, they were simply known as the parties where people had the most fun.
